North Dakota House Passes Bill to Make Gold and Silver Legal Tender, Reject CBDC
Because of the incredible last minute appeal and efforts of Rep SuAnn Olson, the North Dakota House went from a "recommend do not pass" out of the Business, Industry, and Labor Committee, to pass on the House floor 61-30. HB1441 is a bill recognizing gold and silver as legal tender while explicitly excluding central bank digital currency (CBDC). The measure also eliminates taxes on gold and silver transactions, aiming to facilitate their use as money rather than mere investments. The bill also seeks to create obstacles for potential federal implementation of a CBDC by refusing to recognize it as legal tender in the state. The bill has now been referred to the Senate Finance and Taxation Committee for consideration.
